June 1, 2018 Good News Announcement Special Announcement: We are all the Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed. The Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed and the Porcupine Lake Information Group have merged to form a new, Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed. Through many meetings, conversations and decision making during the past year and a half, these two groups have, for the betterment and care of the Porcupine River Watershed and Porcupine Lake merged their memberships to create a stronger voice and stronger community presents when concerning the care and development of our local waterway. Kees Pols, Glen MacFarlane and Bill Russell (present directors) have signed a transfer of the Affairs of the Corporation Agreement,  from the Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed (a Non Profit Corporation) to Brenda Torresan, Paula Hoggett and Rick Cecconi of the Porcupine Lake Information Group (all in term executive members) until an annual meeting can be held at a later date this year 2018. Both groups will keep their face book pages. We encourage you to join both groups. The Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed The Porcupine Lake Information Page One group will be centred around working towards by- annual trail clean ups, nature walks, spawning bed developments, tree planting, surveying and documenting our amphibians (music to our ears), species of fish, fur bearing mammals and our plethora of bird species. The completion of an accessible Porcupine River canoe and kayak route, that will lead us from Porcupine Lake to our Night Hawk Lake all by waterways. This group will work towards Annual Celebrations of Earth Day, World Water Days and bring a greater educational components to the community through many resources. One group will continue the quest to ensure correct information is given to the public on the progress of the pumping stations to repair the flooding and sewage bypass issues in Porcupine and South Porcupine. The group will continue to involve CELA(Canadian Environmental Legal Association) for correct and positive information when moving forward. The group will also continue to involve and share with the City of Timmins, the Porcupine Health Unit and the MRCA information and resolutions from a community view point. We ask that you keep your posts relevant to the issues at hand on the PLIG page. Any questions will be researched and responded too as time allows. Both of these groups although separate on their face book pages are one with the same goals in place. As one complete group, we will have a membership drive. We are all volunteers who will act reasonably and responsibly. We will work towards the betterment of our water and water ways for the environmental success of our community and health of our population.
